Collaboration-We all went to the thrift store together to get costumes for production work and collaborated about what we needed and what would look the best for the theme of Shakespeare.
Adaptability-I had to adapt to using other's ideas for the project when we were making masks and costumes.
Initiative-A lot of the time, I had to take the initiative to learn my lines, even though I didn't have that many.
Communication-This came in for production work. I had to design Reed (Demetrius) and Quinn's (Lysander) costumes. I had to make sure they had what I would need and if not I had to get it.
Indepedant Research-I missed the whole week that we watched the movie and read the book so I had to learn the whole story independently.
Creativity-Creating all of the costumes for this project required a lot of creativity. I gave the two characters I was assigned to colors. Reed was red and Quinn was blue so their costumes were based off of them.
Use of class time
I think that I deserve about 95% for this grade because I was almost always very productive for this project and when I wasn't I took the initiative to become more on task.
Introduction
For the Shakespeare project, we started out watching the movie and reading the book of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and after we put on a production of the story. My role in the play was Hippolyta, Theseus, the main characters fiance. The story is about four lovers, Hermia, Helena, Demetrius, and Lysander. Who all end up in the woods and fall in love with the wrong person. In the end, they all get married to the right person and watch a performance of Pyramus and Thisbe; a story similar to Romeo and Juliet. We also did a poetry conversion from shakespeare to todays english. The shakespeare essay and Iambic pentameter slideshow were very educational and useful to the rest of the project. We also made posters to represent the characters in the story. This project was very interesting and I really enjoyed it because I was interested in the topic.
2. I connected to this project with my production role of one of the costume designers. I am very artistic so this was a good choice for me. We got to go to the thrift store to pick out costumes for the people we were in charge of. I was assigned to Demetrius and Lysander, which both only needed simple costumes. I wasnt able to find anything on that trip for my costumes, but the glitter we got really helped out for the masks. My favorite moment during this project was when Ben had his dress on and I had the fairy costume on and fell over. This project brought lots of laughs.
3. This project was very difficult in many ways but the hardest part was learning our lines. I didn't even have that many lines, but memorization has always been hard for me. I persevered when I quickly memorized my longest line right before the final play. I worked really hard to act as Hippolyta.
4. During this project, I learned that I am a collaborator. Working amongst others really helps me get into a project like I did with this one. I can get inspired by others to get ideas. When we were making masks, Dylan made one that looked familiar. It turns out that I had one like it at home so I brought it in for Reed to wear as Demetrius.
5. I think, that the reason Shakespeare is so relevant and important to todays society is simple. I believe the reason for Shakespeare's stories is love. Most people want to have the kind of love that Romeo and Juliet share, or Pyramus and Thisbe. Even though love like that can be very hard to find.
45/50 A thoughtful reflection, some more information in the last paragraph would be helpful and make it more complete.

Imperfect Society
Many teen girls have committed suicide because of feeling imperfect. As a girl, I have been socialized to think I’m not perfect, but I should be. Now I am realizing that maybe society is what is imperfect instead of me. There are three factors that come into this; girls are socialized to be what boys want, expectations are never realistic, and finally, the media causes this mostly through advertising. The importance of this is to realize that most teen girls are negatively influenced by society. Girls are negatively and positively socialized by society. Boys, expectations, and the media play a big role in this.
When most girls feel insufficient or imperfect, it usually comes from the need to please boys. When I get up in the morning, get dressed, and complete everything I need to have done to be confident, I strive for perfection. Usually it is because I want to be noticed by a guy. I usually don’t wake up in the morning hoping that my teacher will notice how m hair is done. [1]The reason for this is because we are socialized to think three things; First, we are supposed to be in a relationship, Second, we as girls, want to be respected by the boys, and finally, we have been socialized to think that being popular is everything. We want to be popular with the boys so more people will like us. So we strive for the boys to like us.
Societies expectations are not realistic. Maybe with photo shop or plastic surgery, we could come close to having an appearance that is acceptable for society…but it’s pretty hard to measure up. In a survey, 30% of women chose an ideal body weight that is 20% underweight and an additional 44% chose an ideal bodyweight that is 10% underweight.[2] The fact is, that most healthy women think they are overweight. I would have to agree that I would probably pick an ideal bodyweight that is unhealthy. But that is because of how I have been socialized. Society has made us think that to be beautiful you must be skinny.
The media shapes the world, and has a very big influence on everyone’s expectations. On one hand, social media can ease many of the insecurities girls feel about their identities and relationships. If life has dealt you a hand that you most likely cannot change, a few clicks can help you control your online appearance. But in real life you cannot change it, so these feelings just end up as insecurities. [3]–Rachel Simmons. Most media is about selling a certain product, and to get people to purchase, you need people to need it. So all of these industries make people feel insecure. If people feel insecure about themselves, they want to change, and these products use celebrities to make sales. This cycle just keeps rotating.
How can we break this cycle? This cycle of socialization just keeps rotating; girls trying to please boys, society having high expectations, and the media making people feel insecure. If we socialized our children to think that everyone is beautiful, no matter what. Or that being popular mean something in high school, but it wont get you anything in life.
The way society can influence how a teen girl views herself can be negative most of the time. From the need to please boys, to societies expectations to the medias influence, teenage girls have so much pressure to be perfect. As a teen girl, I have been socialized to think that I am not perfect. But I should be. Now I am starting to realize that I’m not imperfect, society is.

This is my mask for the mask project. One side represents all of the hurtful things society tells us and how they make us feel. The other side represents the mask we put on for society to say that we are okay, even though we aren't.
Socialization Project Reflection Questions
1. I am most proud of my refinement on my mask. I added a lot of detail to my mask and always made sure that it looked the best that it could. My words on one side of the mask were very hard to write because the only thing that would show up was paint, so I had to be very careful when painting them on. I am very proud of my refinement and detail on this project.
2. I am very proud of my thesis: “As a girl, I have been socialized to be perfect, but I am told I’m not. Now I am realizing that I’m not the one who is imperfect, society is.” I am proud of this because it makes me feel stronger as a girl. It makes me open up my eyes to the truth and I think it opened the eyes of most of the people that read my essay.
3. The most memorable part of this project for me was my mask. It really reflected how I am and how I have felt. The appearance of the mask also represented the artistic side of me.
4. In project based learning, I think that I need to work on evidence more. Throughout all of my revisions, I was told that I needed more evidence in each of my body paragraphs. I had a hard time explaining my evidence during the exhibition. Evidence will help me give a reason why I am interested in the project I am doing during project based learning.
