For my project, I chose to express the emotions of letting go and feeling at home through my painting. My final project was very different than my first and second, third, fourth, and fifth drafts, but throughout the whole process, I was feeling the same emotion; sadness of leaving home. I started out with the song "Let's Be Still" by the Head and the Heart. This song speaks of laying everything down and wanting to stay in a single moment forever. I had a moment a couple months before I started this project that I was able to share with people that I hold close to my heart. Even though this was such a beautiful moment, it was very melancholy because I realized that I may never be able to be a part of it again. Getting ready to go to college, I have realized that even though there are many adventures up ahead, there are so many that I am leaving behind. I ended up changing my song many times, because there were just so many that resonated with me. The feeling of driving through the mountains reminds me of home so much, that I decided to chose "Sing to the Mountain" by Elephant Revival as my final song because it gives me such a melancholy and nostalgic feeling. To speak of layering paint, my final painting probably had 10 different layers on it. I had many different versions of this painting and each had a different layer. Some seemed more like watercolor, while others were thicker. I found it more challenging to paint watercolor because I didn't have control over the space where the paint was |
