During the crime scene project, I faced many challenges and had many cool learning experiences. We started by watching the move "West Memphis 3", a movie about the lives of three innocent boys who spent many years in prison for murders that they did not commit. In order to be exonerated, they had to do a certain plead, that made it so that the real killer would never be imprisoned. We learned about what it means to be exonerated (get out of prison and be free of charges). After Jen Marsh came in and spoke with us, ( a man who was exonerated), we each chose an exoneree from the Innocence Project. An organization that helps with cases like Kens. We also learned about the processes of certain forensic sciences and really went into depth with learning all of these. Each student was assigned to a crime scene and was a partner. I was working on Crime Scene #3 and I was Partner #1.
The forensic sciences that I learned about and wrote evidence reports about were toxicology, superglue fuming, casting, and DNA analysis. Eli and I used all of these methods to solve our crime. In the end, we found out that Mrs. Peterson had accidentally ran over the victim, Terrance Bon, and with the help of her husband, used a big bag to cover up his body. This was basically a hit and run.
-The forensic science that was the most interesting to me was toxicology because it is so complex. Also, it is not just used in crime scene investigation, but also in other things, like DUI's and drug tests. I also found it interesting that poison is such a common way to kill someone.
-I felt that the labs went well in this project because our guidelines for them were laid out set in stone and we never really had to ask for instructions.
-I wish that I was more organized and didn't procrastinate as much on this project, especially with the evidence reports.
